American Specialist Donates Four Psychological Intervention Devices to Disaster Area

Dr. Kirsch’s Graduating Class at Nanjing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Renowned US psychological intervention specialist, Professor Daniel Kirsch was in China giving lectures in the Nanjing Chinese Medical University. When he learnt of the great earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan, he immediately realized the importance and urgency of psychological intervention and called for the simultaneous treatments of psychological and physical wounds. Yesterday, he donated four psychological intervention devices to the Jiangsu Support-Sichuan-Disaster Psychological Rescue Team. This equipment calms down victims with anxiety and depression through electrical stimulation of the brain.

Experienced in the psychological intervention in the aftermath of disasters, Professor Daniel Kirsch was most eager to offer his help. In his interview with the reporter, he emphasized one word which was “speedy”. Time means lives. Those who suffer from psychological wounds need to be treated as quickly as possible. What is the best way to help the earthquake survivors shake off their pains? Professor Daniel Kirsch said that the most important thing was to let the survivors help the other victims. He suggested that the victims themselves be recruited into the rescue teams. The surviving victims will be willing to help other people who need help and will find new meaning in their lives which will help them forget about their pains temporarily and to face reality with courage again. When the rescue work is over, they will then be rehabilitated with psychological intervention. Professor Daniel Kirsch also urged those who had suffered from similar trauma in the past to volunteer to help heal the psychological wounds of those who were struck by the present disaster. For example, those who suffered from and survived the great Tangshan earthquake should come forward immediately and use their own experience to help victims of this earthquake to walk out of the shadow cast by this earthquake.
